| John Mann has welcomed the new treatment guidance that has been issued by Health Secretary, Alan Johnson MP as it will ensure that all veteran’s
will get priority treatment by the NHS when their illness or condition has been caused as a consequence of their service to this country. Until now veterans in receipt of a war pension have always been entitled to “fast-track treatment” but this new
guidance will cover those who are not in receipt of a pension but whose injuries are suspected of being received while in service to their country. For example, mental health problems may not
manifest themselves until after the serviceman or woman has left the forces.
John Mann said “many war veterans have taken great risks and suffered severe hardship that most of us cannot imagine. This new policy will
ensure that all war veterans get the priority treatment that they deserve”.
